The company was founded in 1905 by Sir Herbert Austin, who was previously the manager of the Wolseley Tool and Motor Car Company. In its company history, there have been many mile stones, namely the merger with Morris in 1952, which brought supplementary prestige to the company and the legal agreement with Nissan at about the same time in the 1950s; but afterwards, the parenting of the British Leyland Motor Corporation has brought a bit of trouble in the company, being saved by the merger with the British Motor Corporation.

The very first Austin automobile was a 5 liter cylinder model with a chain drive, which you can also see in the Austin pictures on our website.
