The Citroen vehicles have their origins in France , and the manufacturer company was created in 1919 by Andre Citroen. The company made it on its own until 1979, when it was incorporated in PSA Peugeot Citroen, having its headquarters in Paris .

At the beginnings of the company, Citroen used to manufacture vehicles that were intended for medium-income people, but in 1934, they hit the jackpot with their Traction Avant, a model that you can find in some Citroen photos on our web site. This model was the first front wheel drive car in the world. The Duck (formerly known as the 2 CV) and the H Van are just a few examples from this successful series. However, producing these front wheel drive models became too expensive for the company, and they went bankrupt. The help came from the Michelin tire company, which became a great creditor for Citroen. The DS and the CX models form this period were good, but their engine was too weak. The following models came with an improvement to this fault: the 2 CV and the DS. These models also came with a much appreciated design.

In 1968, the Citroen company was purchased by the Maserati Italian Car manufacturers, and they started producing models that featured Maserati engines. Such cars included the SM grand tourer. However, Citroen started to have other financial issues, and it was in 1979 that they merged with Peugeot. The Citroen 2 CV and the Citroen Dyane were two successful models.
