When you say De Tomaso cars, you most certainly refer to Italian sports cars. The De Tomaso Modena SpA is the full name for the sports car manufacturer, a company that has started in 1959. The company has officially closed in 2004, due to some financial issues, however, the company has still produced a few new vehicles.

The De Tomaso name is famous for the Formula 1 cars made by the company, and has performed particularly well during the 70s and Frank Williams' team. View some De Tomaso wallpapers and De Tomaso photos form this successful period of the company.

The very first De Tomaso car model was called Vallelunga, launched back in the year 1963. This was a sports car, featuring a Ford Cortina engine and could go with a speed of up to 215 km per hour, having a body manufactured in fiber glass. However, the Vallelunga was produced in small numbers, and was a highly expensive model. The next model, manufactured in mass production was the Mangusta, which started selling in 1966. This model also featured a Ford engine, but this time the engine was American and not European. This sturdy engine gave the possibility to the Mangusta to beat the Ferrari or the Lamborghinis form those times.

The Pantera was also a sturdy model from the De Tomaso manufacturers. The Pantera was the model that really made the De Tomaso name famous and the Pantera a super car. Soon, these models came to sell like the warm bread- due to the lower price (lower than a Ferrari or a Lamborghini), but the trend stopped along with the oil crisis in the 70s.

The GT 5 model came to bring the company back in line, which happened in 1980. This model brought extra luxury and more features.

The most recent model from De Tomaso is called the Guara, launched in 1993. this model is available both in a coupe and a barchetta variant, and they resemble a Masserati model from 1991 and may look like a Ford and BMW as well, because some of these parts of cars were used when conceiving the Guara model.

De Tomaso has also delat with a number of luxury cars, being opponent to the Mercedes and Jaguar luxury cars of the time.
