Founded by a car racing driver and rugby player, Ligier is a car manufacturer of French origins. Guy Ligier founded the company out from his love of cars and racing. However, presently, the company is parented by the Italian company Piaggio, but the Ligier name still exists for a range of micro cars, micro trucks, and quads.

Ligier is very well known for its Formula 1 autos. The first F1 Ligier car was called the Ligier JS 5, and was a design of Gerard Ducarouge. The prize winning Matra V 12 was also a great name back in the 70s, along with Jacques Laffite. The 80s meant a new model for Ligier and the Ligier JS 11 came along. This model also won multiple prizes, even if Williams and Ferrari were two strong opponent teams. The JS 23 was also next; The JS 43 is also a model worth mentioning, especially because it was driven by a strong driver such as the French Olivier Panis, who also won his first victory with Ligier, but this was actually Ligier's last F 1 victory, and this happened in 1996 at the Monaco Grand Prix.
